Darius Pettway, MAS, is an author, educator, behavioral health leader, and nationally recognized youth advocate dedicated to transforming the lives of young people and families through mentorship, education, and community-based support. As the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Life Skool, Darius has devoted his career to creating pathways of hope, opportunity, and long-term success for youth facing adversity.
In 2014, Darius became the first student-athlete in his family to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. During his academic career, he was inducted into the National Criminal Justice Honor Society, Alpha Phi Sigma, and later earned a Master of Administrative Science degree. His educational achievements, combined with his professional experience, have fueled a lifelong commitment to youth development, behavioral health advocacy, and community empowerment.
Under Darius’ leadership, Life Skool has grown into a dynamic organization providing behavioral health services, mentoring, skills development, caregiver support, and community-based programming throughout North Texas. Through strategic partnerships with schools, community organizations, and local stakeholders, Life Skool continues to help youth and families build resilience, overcome obstacles, and achieve meaningful outcomes.

Through his leadership, speaking engagements, writing, and community service, he continues to inspire young people to recognize their value, pursue their goals, and become the best version of themselves.
Emely Marquez is a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) who is passionate about helping children, adolescents, and families build resilience and reach their full potential. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas Woman’s University and has experience providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for children with autism, tutoring and mentoring youth, and teaching in educational settings. Emely has always been passionate about serving young people through the nonprofit mental health field and hopes to one day establish her own organization dedicated to empowering youth and strengthening communities. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys reading, writing, creating art, and spending time with her husband and their dog.
Donovan Carter is a dedicated youth advocate, mentor, coach, and former collegiate student-athlete who brings a strong commitment to leadership, youth development, and community impact to the Life Skool Board of Directors.
A native of Lansing, Michigan, Donovan graduated from Lansing Everett High School before continuing his academic and athletic career at Ferris State University, where he competed as a defensive lineman for the Ferris State Bulldogs. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in Integrated Studies from Ferris State University.
Throughout his career, Donovan has remained passionate about supporting young people through mentorship, athletics, and positive development. His experience coaching youth in football, basketball, and baseball has strengthened his belief in the importance of discipline, accountability, teamwork, perseverance, and positive role models in helping young people reach their full potential.
As a member of the Life Skool Board of Directors, Donovan provides insight and guidance in support of the organization’s mission, long-term growth, and commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for youth and families.
Rodney W. Taylor Licensed Professional Counselor- Supervisor; Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor; Licensed Child Care Administrator, Certified Public School Teacher, Ordained Minister
Rodney has an extensive history of working with youths for his entire professional career. He has been a classroom teacher for elementary students in Dallas, Duncanville, Wilmer-Hutchins, and Arlington ISD. He earned his master’s degree in Counseling from Prairie View A&M university where he also earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He completed his studies and later attained his Licensed Professional Counselor supervision endorsement. He is also a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor.
His credentials have allowed him to work in a variety of professional settings. He has worked as a Psychologist for the Department of Defense where he worked with active-duty military personnel. He has worked in the field of Law enforcement as the Director of Mental Health services for the Ellis County Detention Center. He has also served as program Director for Nexus Recovery Center as well as Youth Advocate Program. He also provides therapy services for children in foster care and Residential Treatment Centers (RTC).
With his diverse work experience and his approach to mental health and substance use the Adolescent Unit of Fort Behavioral Health has a proven advocate that is committed to the betterment of the residents and the growth (professionally and personally) of the treatment team.
Rodney and his wife Shunta are the proud parents of six children and seven grandchildren. He also serves as the youth pastor of Building the Kingdom Community Church.
Dr. Adeline Abam is a Doctor of Nursing Practice and dual-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner with more than a decade of experience in psychiatric and medical care.
Throughout her career, Dr. Abam has worked with major healthcare organizations throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area, including JPS, UNT, and MHMR. Her clinical experience includes psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and treatment of a broad range of behavioral health conditions, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, trauma-related concerns, schizophrenia, and other mental health needs.
Dr. Abam is passionate about providing compassionate, individualized, and evidence-based care. Her approach recognizes that every child and family has a unique story, and she believes effective behavioral healthcare begins with listening, understanding the whole person, and developing a treatment approach tailored to the individual’s needs.
At Life Skool, Dr. Abam brings valuable psychiatric expertise to our multidisciplinary approach to behavioral health. Her experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families strengthens Life Skool’s commitment to ensuring youth have access to comprehensive, coordinated, and compassionate behavioral health services.
Dr. Abam’s philosophy of treating individuals as more than a diagnosis aligns with Life Skool’s mission of helping young people overcome barriers, develop the skills necessary to thrive, and recognize that their current circumstances do not determine their future.
Keturah Shelton, MSW is a dedicated social worker with experience supporting youth and families through case management, behavioral health services, and community resource coordination. She is passionate about empowering individuals, strengthening families, and providing compassionate, person-centered care that helps clients achieve positive outcomes.
Latisha Walker is a Master of Social Work (MSW) professional and Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) with extensive experience supporting youth and families through trauma-informed, community-based services. Her professional background includes working with Youth Advocate Programs (YAP), providing behavioral health and case management services through Mental Health Mental Retardation (MHMR) and the Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments (TCOOMMI), and serving children and youth with complex medical and behavioral needs through Aetna Texas STAR Kids managed care services. She is passionate about helping young people reach their full potential, strengthening family systems, and providing compassionate, consistent guidance as individuals and families navigate complex emotional, behavioral, and medical challenges.
DeNeka Jerrols is a Licensed Bachelor Social Worker (LBSW) with more than 26 years of experience serving children, adolescents, and families. Her diverse professional background includes 22 years working in public schools, 2 years as a Juvenile Probation Officer, and 2 years providing care in an inpatient child and adolescent psychiatric hospital.
She earned her Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Midwestern State University and is currently pursuing licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A).
DeNeka is passionate about supporting children, adolescents, and families as they navigate life’s challenges with compassion, understanding, and hope. She believes every individual possesses unique strengths and is committed to empowering clients with the tools, guidance, and encouragement they need to overcome obstacles and achieve lasting success. Her goal is to foster a safe, supportive, and trusting environment where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered on their journey toward healing, personal growth, and positive change.
Rodarius Daniel brings a diverse background in youth development, behavioral health, education, and juvenile justice. He holds bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice and Sociology from East Texas A&M University and has experience supporting youth in schools, behavioral health settings, and the juvenile justice system. Throughout his career, he has focused on helping young people develop positive decision-making skills, build resilience, and overcome barriers to success. Rodarius is passionate about mentoring youth, strengthening families, and creating meaningful opportunities that empower young people to reach their full potential.
Dr. Crystal Scott is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who brings clinical expertise and a commitment to strengthening the emotional and relational well-being of children, adolescents, and families.
Her therapeutic approach is grounded in understanding the whole person and recognizing the important role that family relationships, life experiences, and environmental factors can play in an individual’s mental and emotional health. Dr. Scott works to create a supportive therapeutic environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to work toward meaningful change.
Through a strengths-based and family-centered approach, Dr. Scott supports individuals and families in improving communication, strengthening relationships, developing healthy coping strategies, and navigating emotional and behavioral challenges. She values collaboration with caregivers and other members of a client’s support system to promote progress that extends beyond the therapeutic setting.
At Life Skool, Dr. Scott provides clinical expertise as part of our multidisciplinary behavioral health team and supports the organization’s commitment to delivering compassionate, individualized, and family-centered behavioral health services to youth and families.
Jo’Nathan Yow is a Qualified Mental Health Professional–Community Services (QMHP-CS) who is passionate about supporting children, adolescents, and families as they work toward meaningful personal growth. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Philander Smith University and brings a supportive, strengths-based approach to his work in behavioral health.
In his role as a QMHP-CS, Jo’Nathan focuses on helping clients strengthen essential life skills, including emotional regulation, communication, decision-making, self-control, problem-solving, and healthy social interactions. He believes that lasting progress begins by helping individuals recognize their strengths, develop practical skills, and build confidence in their ability to make positive choices.
Jo’Nathan strives to create an encouraging and respectful environment where clients feel heard, supported, and motivated to reach their goals. His work also emphasizes collaboration with parents, caregivers, and other support systems to help clients apply newly developed skills in their everyday lives.
His goal is simple: to help each client recognize their potential, overcome challenges, and develop the skills needed to create a healthier and more successful future.
Shaquille Tensley is an accomplished business professional, engineer, former collegiate student-athlete, and community leader who serves as Chairman of the Life Skool Board of Directors.
Shaquille earned his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dayton, where he was also a member of the Flyers football program. During his collegiate career, he distinguished himself both academically and through leadership, earning multiple academic honors and receiving the Lt. Andy Zulli Memorial Trophy, the University of Dayton football program’s most prestigious award recognizing sportsmanship, scholarship, and leadership.
His commitment to leadership and service extends beyond athletics. While at the University of Dayton, Shaquille served with the National Society of Black Engineers and participated in peer mentoring initiatives supporting fellow students.
Shaquille later continued his education at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, where he earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA). His professional experience in engineering and business, combined with his commitment to mentorship and community engagement, provides valuable perspective to Life Skool’s continued growth.
As Chairman of the Life Skool Board of Directors, Shaquille provides leadership and governance in support of the organization’s mission, strategic direction, and long-term sustainability. He remains committed to helping Life Skool expand opportunities for young people and families while ensuring the organization continues to grow with purpose, accountability, and impact.
Tagreed Shamieh is an experienced educator, mentor, and community advocate who brings more than a decade of experience in education, youth development, and leadership to the Life Skool Board of Directors.
Tagreed earned her Bachelor of Arts from San José State University and continued her education at Notre Dame de Namur University, where she completed her teaching credential and graduate studies in education. Throughout her career, she has worked extensively with elementary and middle school students, including experience teaching mathematics and science.
In addition to her career in education, Tagreed brings valuable entrepreneurial and leadership experience. She played an active role in the early growth of her family’s business, CREAM (Cookies Rule Everything Around Me), including serving as general manager of its original Berkeley location as the company expanded from a family-operated business into a multi-location franchise.
Her combined experience in education, youth engagement, and business provides a unique perspective on the importance of creating environments where young people can learn, develop confidence, and reach their full potential.
As Secretary of the Life Skool Board of Directors, Tagreed supports strong governance and organizational accountability while helping advance Life Skool’s mission to create meaningful opportunities and positive outcomes for youth and families.
